Antique Chinle Navajo Weaving : GHT 2305

This Navajo weaving is hand spun and hand dyed, possibly with natural dyes found in plants and minerals found in the area.

The revival of the vegetal dyed blanket began in the 1920s in Chinle with Cosy Mc Sparron  a trader in the Chinle area.  He and Mary Cabot Wheelwright encouraged the Navajo weavers to experiment with vegetal dyes.
