Transitional Navajo Weaving : Historic : GHT 2078
It's very possible that this unusual piece was a demonstration piece woven in the 1890s. It was woven like a Chief Blanket.
It's from what has been recognized as the "Transitional" period of Navajo weaving. Weavers began to experiment with color and creating more complex designs. The loom artist behind this piece was certainly showing their pattern diversity with this weaving.
