Saddle Blanket - Single : Historic : GHT 2119

Valero (eight-pointed pinwheel) stars are recognized as an element of the "Crystal" style of weaving.

The weaver used Valero stars in this bold and confident Single Saddle Blanket - which would have been lain flat across the horse instead of doubled over as is done with Double Saddle Blankets.  The weaver incorporated a number of "lazy lines" to act as a hinging mechanism and permit the blanket to conform better to the horse's back, ensuring a more comfortable experience.

The central area of saddle blankets weren't usually woven with design as it would have been hidden by the rider or the saddle. You can see that the weaver used naturally colored wool for the center of the blanket.
