Ganado - Klagetoh Navajo Weaving : Historic : GHT 763
This is an excellent example of a Ganado - Klagatoh regional weaving. The crisp Ganado red sets off this weaving in a magnificent way. The lovely hooks which play such an important role in this piece demonstrate design elements that the Navajo borrowed from oriental rugs. The weaver wove feathers in the central margins of the piece. Look at the beautiful color variegation seen in the gray/brown background - they're so handsome. The beautiful "lazy lines" or pauses create a fluidity to the movement in the reds and the gray-brown background field.
This piece was brought to life using all hand-carded, hand-spun, and hand-dyed native wool. It's very tightly woven.
