Teec Nos Pos Navajo Weaving : Historic : GHT 2024

Teec Nos Pos style weavings are some of the most ornate with a distinct oriental influence.  In this lovely piece from the 1930s, one of the first things you notice is a belted and broken diamond border.  The border encloses a lovely background of nicely variegated natural gray/brown wool which helps to offset the vibrant orange, red, and purple  in the inset designs.

The weaver incorporated many triangle shapes to maintain a design constant throughout the weaving - how many can you find? To soften all of the straight angles, the weaver inserted a central column of colorful hooks which added just the right touch to balance out and complete the design.
