Red Mesa / Teec Nos Pos Navajo Rug Weaving : Historic : PC 73

When it comes to color mastery, this weaver was a pro. Before it became a handsome work of art, the Merino wool was hand-sheared, hand-carded, hand-spun, and hand-dyed using Aniline dyes.

The three columns of belted diamonds are stunning with their color balanced hues.  Look closely at how the artist made a center "panel" appear using positive/negative color imagery.  A delightful Teec Nos Pos border encases the Red Mesa inner style. This work is part of the Navajo Textiles as Modern Art exhibit.

This wonderful hand crafted weaving is spectacular in color, condition, and quality.  It is tightly and meticulously woven.  To fully appreciate this piece, remember that the loom would have been outdoors when this piece was brought to life.  But for MONTHS before the first yarn touched the loom the wool would have been prepared.
