Single Saddle Blanket - Teec Nos Pos Navajo Weaving : Historic : GHT 1892

Woven for a Navajo saddle to be used as a saddle throw, adorning the top of the saddle for extra padding and show.

Most saddle blankets were woven with a plain center as no one would see it.  It was a way to conserve the more expensive dyed wool.  The designs in this piece tell us it's from the Teec Nos Pos area of the reservation. Look at the "T" border on a gorgeous red background.
