Saddle Blanket - Double Twill Navajo Weaving : Historic : GHT 2242

This weaving is part of an Exhibition showing at the Tucson Desert Art Museum January 4 2017 to May 30 2017.

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. This is an Antique Navajo Double Saddle Blanket from the 1940s. It's woven in an unusual double twill - 2 faced. Check out the photos to see the weaving in detail.

Twill patterns are often used for saddle blankets because there is more wool per area than on traditional patterns. It's a difficult style to learn and takes many years to master.

This saddle blanket measures 32 x 50" and the owner could choose which design he wanted to show when riding on it - the large circles or the smaller square pattern.
