3rd Phase Chief Blanket : Historic Navajo Blanket : GHT 393

This extremely rare 3rd Phase Navajo Chief Blanket with Germantown and classic finish point depicts Whirling Logs and Spider Woman's Crosses.  Whirling Logs represent spirits ascending from the underworld to the surface.  It was Spider Woman who taught Navajo ancestors the art of weaving upon a loom.

This weaving was purchased new at Hubbell's Trading Post by a couple from Texas on their honeymoon in the 1890's.  It has been in the Getzwiller collection for over 35 years.
