Burntwater Navajo Weaving : Elvie Van Winkle : on the loom
Elvie Van Winkle is known for her very tight Navajo weavings, but this is a new adventure for her. She has been weaving a Burntwater, hand dying with natural dyes as she weaves. She has learned this regional stye from Lillian Joe, her mom. Steve worked with Lillian in the early 1990s. Lillian is still well known for her weaving with fine wool, and usually produces small weavings.
This weaving will be about 3' x 4' and will showcase Elvie's talent ! It looks like it'll be everything that a Burntwater should be, colorful and intricate ! We are excited to watch this weaving emerge.
