3rd Phase Navajo Chief Blanket : Julia Upshaw : Churro 1393

Julia Upshaw was given the talent of creating remarkable Navajo Chief Blankets when she was blessed as an infant. She has remained true to her calling and weaves some of the best Chief and wearing blankets on the reservation.

The judges agree.  This spectacular piece earned 2nd place at the 2014 Inter-Tribal Ceremonial.  Julie used all natural dyes: Indigo blue, cochineal / lac red, and rabbit brush yellow. These bright and bold colors are offset by the natural Churro brown and cream wools used.

Take a look at the detail photos to appreciate the attention to detail she incorporated in this piece - the tiny yellow accents in the corners, the different colors used to outline the zig-zags. This piece is a treasure!
