Manta Classic Dress Panel Navajo Weaving : Historic : AC 12
This Classic Dress Half panel is truly a gem. From the 1850s-1860s and in all original condition. It was woven with handspun raveled Bayeta (red) and indigo.
The Bayeta comes from a cochineal dyed cloth, from this time period, that was unraveled and woven into the Classic Dress Half.
The black is handspun Churro wool. Which is actually a deep deep brown enhanced with natural sumac, so dark, that it appears to be black. The black wool for all Classic Dress Halves was enhanced in this way.
This Dress panel, exceedingly finely woven and all original is very rare.
