Ganado Great Star Pictorial Navjo Weaving : Historic : GHT 2088

When Steve adds weavings to the gallery for you he makes sure they are of the finest quality - woven by a master weaver, is distinctive and eye-catching.  He prefers weavings which speak individual stories, not the typical tourist copycat weavings available anywhere.

Here is a fine example.  We have a historic Ganado - Klagetoh piece from the 1920s.  It's just spectacular with a bright and shining star in the center; the piece just radiates beauty.

The brown background was woven using natural wool, and the gorgeous red background was probably hand-dyed and is just brilliant. You can see when the weaver used a new ball of wool as the red tones are slightly different. The border and dark outlines were made using natural black and brown wool and give the piece added dimension.

The outer designs are very reminiscent of those used in JB Moore pieces and may have influenced the weaver of this piece.
