Tree of Life - Yei Pictorial : Historic : GHT 1053
This gorgeous and unusual piece is just magnificent. It is extremely well woven, and made from all hand-carded, hand-spun native wool.
Where to begin? Let's take a look at the lovely background. It was carded so well that it is nearly a perfect blend in color, and is beautifully variegated. Next we see all of the captivating and lovely birds. When you see birds in a tree of life weaving they represent messengers to and from the gods.
Two impressive corn Yei stand tall on either side, while spiderwoman crosses are prominent and powerful in this piece. Down the middle we have three different small Navajo blankets represented.
This piece was a part of our Woven Holy People exhibit. You can find it on page 14 of the exhibit guide, here.
