Zuni Moki Child's Blanket : Historic : GHT 2287

Zuni Child's blanket.  This is one is special !!  

   Woven with many, many different yarns. This one tells a story! 

This Zuni weaver, used whatever type of material available to him.  There is grey wool only available in the Zuni area. He also used 3 ply Saxony, Bayetta and raveled flannel.  In some of the stripes he wove with native wool that was hand dyed with green and  blue indigo, the very dark brown/black is also natural wool color.   

The warp that shows through in a few places is grey, brown, white, and red.  

Woven in the 1860s  this classic blanket is child size.
