Anita was a well known and respected weaver throughout the world. Her rug work had been featured in the Cortez Journal, the Arizona Highway Magazine and Native People’s Magazine, as well as various other publications.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAnita won numerous awards for her beautiful work, including 2 Best of Show Awards at the Annual Santa Fe Indian Market for her Sandpainting Weavings, \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ean impressive feat considering the fact she is believed to be only the second weaver to receive the award in Indian market’s 83-year history.\u003c\/strong\u003e \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Anita became interested in weaving when she was a young child, after hearing the stories her mother told about her grandmother. She was the third generation of women in her family to take up the craft. She specialized in Navajo Sandpainting Weavings. Those familiar with her work know she was very dedicated to it. {"id":7461831043,"title":"Serape Navajo Weaving : Laverta Marianito : Churro 425 : 62″ x 73″ (5'2\" x 6'1\") : Award Winner!","handle":"churro-425-navajo-serape-laverta-marianito","description":"\u003cp\u003eAs we've mentioned before about Chief Blankets, not all people come in the same size.  When folded in down and wrapped around you, it would keep you extra warm an cozy!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis beautiful piece of art was created by Laverta Marianito in 2004 and is handsome beyond words. The deep brick red is stunning and the zig-zag and ribbon design work is spectacular.  One can't help but to appreciate the spiderwoman crosses which adorn this piece.  It was woven with hands which have been richly blessed by Spiderwoman.   \u003cbr\u003eNothing is perfect to the Navajo, and when a piece of work is exceptional, they will weave something imperfect into the piece.  One very interesting thing to notice about this piece is the light colored line through the dark central belted diamond.  Laverta placed it there intentionally. The deep brick red is stunning and the zig-zag and ribbon design work is spectacular.  One can't help but to appreciate the spiderwoman crosses which adorn this piece.  It was woven with hands which have been richly blessed by Spiderwoman.   \u003cbr\u003eNothing is perfect to the Navajo, and when a piece of work is exceptional, they will weave something imperfect into the piece.  One very interesting thing to notice about this piece is the light colored line through the dark central belted diamond.  Laverta placed it there intentionally.
