Bigger is Better - and much more valuable!

Yes, size matters - a lot.  Big rugs are rare which of course increases value.  Past and present weavers typically weave small to medium size rugs.  One reason is limited space.  The larger the rug, the larger the loom.  Many Navajo live in homes that have low ceilings and low square footage, which makes it nearly impossible for many weavers to take on large rugs. 

Another reason weavers tend to weave smaller rugs is the amount of time it takes.  Large rugs can take a year or more to complete.  Weaver's payday typically comes when they sell their rug.  Few can go a year or more without a paycheck.  Which means fewer weavers then and now take on large rugs. 

We have large historic, contemporary and Churro weavings available.

The prices do vary especially when Steve gets a good deal on a weaving - he then passes that savings along to our clients.

Anita was a well known and respected weaver throughout the world. Her rug work had been featured in the Cortez Journal, the Arizona Highway Magazine and Native People’s Magazine, as well as various other publications.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAnita won numerous awards for her beautiful work, including 2 Best of Show Awards at the Annual Santa Fe Indian Market for her Sandpainting Weavings, \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ean impressive feat considering the fact she is believed to be only the second weaver to receive the award in Indian market’s 83-year history.\u003c\/strong\u003e \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAnita became interested in weaving when she was a young child, after hearing the stories her mother told about her grandmother. She was the third generation of women in her family to take up the craft. She specialized in Navajo Sandpainting Weavings. Those familiar with her work know she was very dedicated to it. Anita was a well known and respected weaver throughout the world. Her rug work had been featured in the Cortez Journal, the Arizona Highway Magazine and Native People’s Magazine, as well as various other publications.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAnita won numerous awards for her beautiful work, including 2 Best of Show Awards at the Annual Santa Fe Indian Market for her Sandpainting Weavings, \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ean impressive feat considering the fact she is believed to be only the second weaver to receive the award in Indian market’s 83-year history.\u003c\/strong\u003e \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAnita became interested in weaving when she was a young child, after hearing the stories her mother told about her grandmother.
